Over the last two years, Jannik Sinner has emerged as one of the most formidable players. The Italian player has given excellent performances in both the tour and the Grand Slam competitions. After winning the Australian Open, Sinner achieved his first-ever Grand Slam, securing his place among the next generation of stars.
Sinner was asked in a recent interview what lessons he learned from the ‘Big Three’, who dominated the men’s tennis scene when he was growing up.
Sinner gave a very detailed explanation of how his style of play is comparable to Novak Djokovic’s. In recent months, there have been several intense court encounters between the Italian and the Serb. The Italian has surprisingly had the better of Djokovic.
Sinner was asked in the interview: “You have grown up in tennis with the members of the ‘Big Three’ on the circuit. To what extent have they influenced your game and who do you compare yourself to?”
Sinner cited similarities between Djokovic and himself over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in his response.
Sinner expressed his thoughts about his style of play and said: “I think my tennis is similar to Djokovic’s. We both played well from the back of the court, but we tried to go to the net. The way we slide on the court is also similar. I feel lucky to have met them. Roger is no longer here, but when the three of them were there, I tried to watch what they did in the gym outside of it. Learn as much as possible from them. I feel lucky that they are on the tour because they have won more Grand Slam titles than anyone else.”
Jannik Sinner says he tried to learn as much as possible from watching Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, & Novak Djokovic:
