Dominic Thiem improved his squad with the addition of coach Mate Delic, who previously collaborated with fellow countryman Borna Coric and helped him win the Cincinnati Masters in 2022. The two parted ways recently.

Delic will have the responsibility of ending Thiem’s decline, which has recently led the former US Open champion to consider retiring if his ranking falls below 100 in 2023.

Thiem began the 2021 season rated third in the world, a significant drop from where he is presently. But his career has been severely damaged by a wrist injury, and even after surgery, he is not the same athlete he was. Since April 2022, he has not been included in the top 70 rankings worldwide, and his ranking has either decreased or remained constant.
