Murray gives the Davis Cup final to Great Britain

Andy Murray makes history once again!

The world no.3 wins his 3rd match (d. Tomic) of a very emotional weekend to give the decisive point to Great Britain against Australia. That means that GB is in the Davis Cup final and they have a shot at winning the tournament after 1936 (that was Fred Perry’s time).

Even if Murray insisted that the team was not everything about him, well…  everything was about the world no.3. Andy demolished Kokkinakis in the first match (6-3 6-2 6-3) to win an incredible (and decisive) 5 setter with his brother Jamie against Groth and Hewitt 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-4. The match against Tomic was pretty one-sided with Andy winning 7-5 6-3 6-2.  So if you consider that GB lost the only point when Murray was not playing (Evans vs, Tomic)… well you can assume that 90% of the result came from Andy.

Murray: winning for the country is a lot

Andy commented “Winning for your country and your team-mates means a lot. The crowd were unbelievable from the first ball to the last. I didn’t feel great the whole weekend to be honest, I’ve been struggling with my back, but I just tried to disguise it.”

Captain Leon Smith: Andy fights so well

Andy’s captain commented “He’s quite good isn’t he? It’s pretty amazing watching Andy’s work over the whole weekend, he fights so hard and he’s got the quality. He executed it perfectly today.”

Great Britain will play against either Belgium or Argentina.
