Stefanos Tsitsipas, the rising star of Greek tennis, has attributed much of his success to his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, who serves not only as his coach but also as a guiding figure in his life. In a recent interview, Stefanos opened up about the profound impact his father has had on his career and personal development.
“When he’s not there, I feel like a part of my identity as a player is lost,” Stefanos expressed candidly. “There have been times in the past when he wasn’t with me and I felt like half a player.” Despite occasional friction, Stefanos acknowledges his father’s unique understanding of him: “Sometimes I may not speak very nicely to him but he is the only one who understands me and this is part of the job.”
The dynamic between father and son extends beyond the tennis court. Stefanos emphasized their ability to compartmentalize their relationship: “The good thing about us is that we can separate the two things, being a father from being coach.” This separation allows for a balanced approach, ensuring that their personal bond remains intact while they pursue excellence in the realm of professional tennis.
As Stefanos continues to ascend the ranks of the tennis world, his father’s unwavering support and guidance remain constant sources of strength. Together, they epitomize the power of familial bonds and the profound impact of a parent’s unwavering belief in their child’s potential.
