According to Jannik Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, the Italian player was motivated to win the Australian Open singles title after witnessing his competitor, Carlos Alcaraz, win a pair of Grand Slam titles. In a thrilling comeback, the 22-year-old Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to win his first major title.

After the match, Cahill talked with the media in Melbourne and appreciated Sinner’s approach to the game. When asked if Alcaraz inspired Sinner’s Slam achievement, Cahill replied: “Hell yeah. Absolutely. There’s no question; seeing the young players come through and have success drives every one of them. Not just Jannik. They all desire it. They all want it.”

He further said: “If they see one of their compatriots or someone of their generation having success, then you look into what they’re doing, why they’re having success, and how we’re going to replicate it for us.”

Alcaraz, according to Cahill, remains a measure of Sinner’s performance since Team Sinner’s ultimate objective is to move forward. Cahill said: “Carlos has trailblazed a lot of young players. We’re thankful for that. He’s a delight to watch play and it’s a delight to watch him on the court. We aspire to be as good as him and hopefully one day be better than him, but at the moment we’re chasing Carlos, and we’ll continue to do that.”
