Everybody expected that this US Open edition was owned by Serena especially after many top players crashed out early in the tournament. Eventually the world no.1 suffered from an incredible loss at the hands of Roberta Vinci so as not to be able to win a historical Grand Slam.
As we know, it was Flavia Pennetta to win an incredible Slam in an all-Italian final and Serena was among the first to congratulate Flavia twetting “@flavia_pennetta congrats I’m so happy you won. You deserved it. I am also happy for the rest of your life’s journey. I will miss your smile”
