Roger Time! An inspired Federer downs Murray 7-5 6-4 in the 2012 ATP final in Dubai – video

Roger is the man of the moment and he looks to be the fittest player in the tour. He just struggles with Rafa (well not a big news), but it looks as confident as ever with the rest of the pack.

Many ‘criticized’ his victory in Rotterdam saying that he can win tournaments only if he the ‘other 3’ do not play. And in fact.. he won a tournament packed with top players with Novak and Andy in pole position.

The impression is that Federer can reach the top spot of the ranking especially if Novak can’t get to the last year levels (and apparently he can’t) and Rafa is not in super top form. Murray does not seem to be a real threat in this sense (at least for now).

Going back to the match. On one side, Roger looked pretty set to win it, on the other Andy looked shaky and an array of uncharacteristic errors gave a big advantage to an inspired Federer in both sets. Eventually a sloppy serve game by the Scott gave to Roger the decisive break when the scoreline was 4-4 in the second set . The second set ended 6-4 for Roger.

‘Winning is always the best, it solves everything. It’s been a special week for me,’ said Federer

Murray added: ‘The atmosphere was fantastic. I think most of the crowd wanted Roger to win!’.

Maybe he is right. Most of the time people back Federer especially if he is not playing against a local player. If you consider that Roger is home in Dubai…
