At the 2024 Melbourne Grand Slam, Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in an intense and historic five-set encounter to win the first Grand Slam of his professional career: 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
Sinner continued the incredible run that saw him win the Davis Cup for Italy at the end of the 2023 season, becoming the first Italian to win the Australian Open at the same time. During the trophy ceremony, the newly awarded Grand Slam champion expressed his immense happiness.
Sinner thanked his team after the win and said: “My team, everyone who’s in this box. Also watching from home, who works with me. We’re trying to get better every day. Even during the tournament, we try to get stronger and understand every situation a little better. I’m so glad to have you there, supporting and understanding me. Sometimes it’s not easy because I’m still a bit young. It is what it is.”
He ended by talking about how fortunate he feels to have had his parents, who have always allowed him the flexibility to choose his path.
Sinner added beautiful words for his parents in the post-match press conference and said: “Everyone who’s watching from home, especially my family. I wish everyone could have my parents. They always let me choose whatever I wanted to. Even when I was younger, I played some other sports; they never put pressure on me. I wish this freedom was possible for as many young kids as possible. Thank you so much to my parents.”

WWWWWWWLWW At the moment ranked no.4 (career-high), the Italian played his last match on the 28th of January when he overcame world no.3 Daniil Medvedev 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 in the final of the Australian Open to win his 11th career title.
During this season Jannik has managed to achieve an overall 7-0 win-loss record. This year, the Italian lifted the trophy at the Australian Open.
Sinner is scheduled to compete next in Marseille (Open 13 Provence). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 5th of February.
