Slovak tennis player Renata Jamrichova defeated 15-year-old Emerson Jones 6-4, 6-1, to win the junior girls’ singles title at the Australian Open on Saturday.
In just over an hour on Rod Laver Arena, Jamrichova secured her first Grand Slam singles victory after making six aces and saving five of six break points.
Jamrichova expressed her happiness after the win and said: “I’m just so happy right now. I played my best this week. At first, I started nervous because of the crowd and Rod Laver Arena, but then I just told myself to be happy on the court and enjoy every point. Be happy that you can be here and play this amazing match.”
In addition to winning the junior doubles championship at Melbourne Park last year, the 16-year-old Slovakian had an outstanding season, reaching the semifinals of the junior Wimbledon and U.S. Open competitions.
