In Melbourne, Daniil Medvedev will face Italian sensation Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open Final. Medvedev, who is scheduled to play in his third final in the previous four years, is hoping to win the Australian Open for the first time. Sinner, who advanced by stunningly defeating Novak Djokovic in four sets, will be a dangerous opponent.
Given the challenge that lies ahead of him, Medvedev told reporters following his semifinal victory over Alexader Zverev that he must approach the match differently than he did previously, particularly in terms of his connection with the fans.
Medvedev stated his remarks in the press conference and said: “I said it before the tournament; I want a change. I don’t want to say better person because I don’t like these labels, ‘better person. Who knows what a better person is? I just want to be better with myself. To not have after the matches these moments where I’m like, ‘I did this with the crowd; was it right, was it wrong, why did I do it? Did it help me on the court? Did it not help me?’ I just don’t want to have it anymore.”
He further added: “I want to play tennis, I want to be proud of myself, I want to fight and stuff like this. So could this help me win all of these matches? Possibly yes. But I also don’t want to say yes. One month ago, I decided this, and then suddenly, I was winning all these matches. Life is not that easy. But I’m doing what I told myself to do one month ago. I’m happy about it. I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
Medvedev ended his discussion and said: “I’m stronger than I was before this tournament because now I know that I’m capable of some things; maybe I thought I wasn’t. Because before, I didn’t do anything like this to get to the final.”
