Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Australian Open after defeating Karen Khachanov in a difficult encounter.
Since winning the China Open the previous year, the Italian has become one of the ATP Tour’s top players. He has only lost to Novak Djokovic and Ben Shelton since then, although he has still defeated the 24-time Grand Slam champion twice in that time.
It came as little surprise that Sinner was frequently regarded as one of the tournament’s favorites going into the 2024 Australian Open. Before the fourth round, he had not lost a set, and even with an amazing effort from Khachanov, that record would hold.
After winning the match, Sinner became emotional and talked about it in the interview. He said: “Usually I try to stay calm on the outside. But inside, you have so many emotions and feelings. Especially when you’re like, ‘I think I played that point well and I lost it.’ It’s bothering me sometimes. But you have to play a little bit with a poker face. Mine is not great but it’s okay.”
