After making it to the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2024, Victoria Azarenka sent her son a heartwarming message to celebrate.
Azarenka advanced to the Round of 16 in Melbourne on Saturday, after defeating Jelena Ostapenko 6-1, 7-5 at the Margaret Court Arena. Against the Latvian, she is currently 4-0 in wins and losses.
The former world No. 1 is now just the second player in the Open Era to reach consecutive women’s singles Round of 16 at the Australian Open, after Serena Williams, who was 33 years of age or older.
Azarenka committed 17 unintentional errors and struck 11 aces, including three to prevent breakpoints. In the second set, the 18th seed overcame a 2–5 deficit to win the match in 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Azarenka wrote a cute note for her son on the camera after the win: “Hi Leo. Smile is non-negotiable. Love, Mum.”

Currently ranked no.22, Azarenka has managed to achieve an overall 6-1 match record in 2024. Victoria is now having a run at the Australian Open where she overcame the world no.53 Camila Giorgi 6-1 4-6 6-3, the world no.96 Clara Tauson 6-4 3-6 6-2 and the world no.10 Jelena Ostapenko 6-1 7-5.
Victoria Azarenka will come up against the world no.93 Dayana Yastremska in the 4th round. Their current record is 2-1 for Azarenka.
