After a hilarious speech about his physicality and gym sessions, Jannik Sinner had the Australian Open crowd in shock on Sunday. He defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 to begin his 2024 Australian Open campaign. On January 17, Sinner defeated qualifier Jesper de Jong 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round.

Sinner talked about his Melbourne routine in between matches after his most recent win. He also mentioned how his coaching staff, which consists of Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, helps him on his days off.

Sinner said during his on-court interview: “For sure, the team gives me a lot of confidence about what the right decision is. But in another way, I feel like I have to create a process. And every day gives me a chance to get better. And this is what I tried to do two days ago and again yesterday. So today I showed a very good level. Tomorrow, again, I have a day off. Trying to practice myself into the match rhythm.”

Sinner continued to make jokes about his physique, stating that, although it might not be obvious, he works out regularly.

When Sinner said that he aspires to have a body like that of the popular American drama series ‘Baywatch,’ the audience went into giggles.

He added: “Of course, it’s a dream to have like the Baywatch physicality, but it’s okay.”
