After a tough opening set, US Open champion Coco Gauff battled her way past Caroline Dolehide to get to the Australian Open third round.

Dolehide served to begin the set after matching Gauff toe-to-toe, but her teenage opponent responded well in crucial situations to win 7-6(2) 6-2. In the first set, Gauff had a 4-1 lead and appeared to be in control, but Dolehide resisted and was rewarded for her hard-hitting when she broke back.

Gauff expressed her thoughts after the win and said: “I wasn’t nervous today. I was just trying to play good tennis. If you give her something short, she will punish you for it. I think if I could go back, I would try and play deeper and more heavily like I did in the second set.”
