In the 2024 Australian Open, Andy Murray disclosed that he felt a strange feeling after his first-round loss since he wasn’t attempting to find a way to alter the outcome of the match.

The former world No. 1 revealed his frustration at not reaching his past heights and believes he can still play superb tennis. However, he is unaware of why he cannot deliver it in matches. Murray was defeated in straight sets by Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the opening round of the 2024 Australian Open on Monday. In his last eight ATP Tour matches, the 36-year-old has suffered seven losses.

Murray has disclosed that this Australian Open may be his final match in Melbourne at a news conference held at the tournament. The ‘big four’ tennis icon acknowledged an uncertain future for the game. He stated: “There is a definite possibility that’ll be the last time I play here. I think probably because of how the match went and everything, I don’t know. While you’re playing the match, you’re obviously trying to control your emotions, focus on the points, and do everything else.”

He added: “When you’re one point away from the end, you’re like: ‘I can’t believe this is over so quickly, and like this.’ In comparison to the matches that I played here last year, it’s the complete opposite feeling walking off the court.”
