Bad news for Maria Sharapova that has to miss this US Open.
The Russian Beauty has been struggling for some time with an injury to her right leg to skip the entire “American Summer”. Last time that Maria has played a match was the Wimbledon semifinal when she lost to Serena Williams (6-2 6-4)
Maria announced the withdrawal on Facebook “Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this years US Open. I have done everything possible to be ready but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong”
Maria will be replaced by Fellow Russian Daria Kasatkina.
