Andrey Rublev prevailed over Thiago Seyboth Wild to book his spot in the Australian Open second round in an exciting five-set thriller.

In three hours and forty-three minutes, Rublev won 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (10-6) despite giving up a two-set lead and four match points on his opponent’s serve at 5-6 in the last set.

Rublev admitted that he had mentally given up throughout the match, but he also realized that this was something that may have helped and given him more freedom to hit. In the long run, he acknowledged that it was not a match he would soon forget.

Rublev explains why the Australian Open crowd’s cheering against him did not bother him. He expressed his feelings in the post-match interview and said: “When someone is losing, the crowd starts to support him to have a more difficult match. Your support today almost made me lose the first round. But I understand. Thank you for supporting the players you like and coming to watch tennis.”
