Sinner Wins

Jannik Sinner won his opening practice match of the 2024 Kooyong Classic with great style, resuming his playing days on the tennis court.

Sinner approached the new season differently than several of his colleagues, opting not to enter any ATP events in the two weeks leading up to the Australian Open.

However, to gain some match experience before the first Grand Slam of the season, the 22-year-old registered for the Kooyong Classic, an exhibition event hosted in a historic tennis club in Melbourne, close to the Australian major. The Italian faced Marc Polmans of Australia in his opening match of the competition.

Sinner was the better player throughout the match, but his comeback masterclass was even more amazing. He held break points in every game of the match, even though he also lost all but one of his serves.

Though his serve wasn’t particularly outstanding, it was still solid enough to save break points for the Italian. Sinner, however, won the match 6-4, 6-0, due to his opponent’s serve, where he created five break opportunities and utilized three of them.
