Serena Williams wins the title in Cincinnati

Serena Williams grabs her second title in Cincinnati, the 69th of her immense career.

In the final against Simona Halep the American no.1 had to cope with her “typical” slow start after dropping her serve in the very first game to recover from a 0-2 deficit and win the opener 6-3. In the second set Serena broke Simona in the 3rd game (2-1) to concede he serve soon after (2-2). Eventually the set went straight to the breaker that Serena won at 5. The final score was 6-3 7-6 (5). Match Stats.

Halep: I wish you luck at the US Open

Simona was as gracious as ever during the ceremony “I have to say congratulations to the champion, Serena, and I wish you good luck at the US Open.  I know that you can win all four – so good luck, and be strong.” … classy!

Serena: I am always honored to play with you

The American replied “Thank you Simona for playing such a good match today, and always being such an incredible opponent and incredible sportswoman. I am always honoured to play against you and always have such a wonderful match whenever we play.

I’ve also got to say, I don’t get support everywhere I play, but I get so much support here in Cincinnati that it makes me want to come back forever and ever, so thank you to all the fans today!”

Simona will head to New Haven for warming up for the last slam (will she really play after reaching 2 important finals back to back?).

Now it’s time for Serena to get ready for the US Open… the all America is with her. She won’t be alone!
