Djokovic survives again in Cincinnati

Novak Djokovic is just 1 step away from winning Cincinnati for the first time and that means that he will finally get the Career Golden Masters (that means he will have won all Master 1000 in his career).

Getting to this final wasn’t easy for Nole that has been struggle since the very beginning to recover from the brink against Goffin (he was 0-3 down in the decider) and in the semi against Dolgopolov. Djokovic had to dig deep against the Ukrainian in the second set tiebreak after he lost the opener 6-4. In the breaker Nole was 0-3 down, but eventually he clawed back to win the second set.  After holding serve in the first game of the decider Dolgopolov imploded to lose 5 consecutive games. Eventually Djokovic wrapped up the match after 2 hours and 20 minutes 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-2. Match Stats.

Djokovic: I was not very happy how I was playing

Nole wasn’t 100% satisfied with his tennis, but the result was the most important thing “When I was 0-3 in the tiebreaker it all looks like it’s going to go his way. But I managed to dig deep and refused to give up. That’s how I won. Basically the same as against Goffin, and that’s how I won today.

I was not very happy the way I played. But, again, a win is a win. I managed to do that because I was always there fighting.”

The final vs. Federer

Nole will play Roger Federer in the final. Head to head is 20-all, but the Serbian has won the last 3 matches. Given the fact that Federer is playing at his very best and Djokovic is struggling, the Swiss may have an edge here.
