Bad news for tennis fans as 2 of the most admired players in North America had to withdraw from Cincinnati.
Sharapova
Maria had to skip the Rogers Cup because of a leg injury and apparently she is still struggling with that to also miss Cincinnati “It’s a tough decision to make but I think a wise one in order to give myself the right amount of time to be as healthy as I can be for the US Open, which I believe is very realistic.
But I don’t know if it would be realistic if I did compete and start tomorrow.”
Ouch: Venus Williams pulls put of Cincy with viral illness, Maria Sharapova pulls out with sore right leg. Bad signs 4 USO

Another hit: now Maria Sharapova out of #CincyTennis with right leg injury. Rough night for the tournament after losing Venus, too.

Venus
The American didn’t feel well after defeating Zarina Diyas in the opener and she couldn’t recover for the 2nd round “It’s pretty rare that I withdraw or retire, so I just wasn’t able to get out there tonight. Every match you have to be at your best, you know, to win. Just couldn’t be at my best today.”
I’m definitely going to rest. I definitely want to go home to Florida, but it’s just something I’ve got to do and get ready for the Open. I definitely would have liked to have more matches going in, but I have to use my experience now.”
Venus had to play the second round against Ana Ivanovic that got a nice free pass to the 3rd round.
I hope Venus feels better soon. It’d have been a tough match for both of us. I hope she can get well fast.
