Rafael Nadal gave horrible news to his fans after declaring that he is not fit enough to compete at the Australian Open. The Spanish sensation appeared to be in fantastic form when he played the first two matches in Brisbane.

However, a long match against Jordan Thompson made it clear that his body was not able yet to withstand a big effort. Eventually, Rafa lost that match 5-7 7-6(6) 6-3 after playing more than three hours. Soon after, he stated that he was not 100% sure he could compete in the first slam of the year. Indeed, he will not compete the Australian Open probably also to preserve his body for the very important clay court season.

Now the world no.672, the Spaniard played his last match on the 5th of January when he was defeated by world no.55 Jordan Thompson 5-7 7-6(6) 6-3 in the quarter in Brisbane (draw).
