Amanda Anisimova’s tennis return ended short on Wednesday at the Auckland Classic as Marie Bouzkova easily defeated her 6-0, 6-1.
With her opponent’s superior movement and shot-making, the 22-year-old American Anisimova, who took an indefinite vacation from tennis in May due to mental health issues, was outmatched.
Anisimova looked to be lacking passion and had trouble timing as she was beaten in just 51 minutes, despite her showing well in her opening match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Monday.
Bouzkova said after the match: “It couldn’t get any better for me; I just stayed really solid and tried to be really aggressive when I could because obviously Amanda is such a huge hitter. Obviously, it’s the start of the year so we’re still pretty fresh and I’m taking advantage of that right now.”
