After missing part of Greece’s United Cup opening loss to Chile, Stefanos Tsitsipas has dismissed worries about his fitness. Due to a back issue, Tsitsipas withdrew from the men’s singles tournament on Tuesday.

Maria Sakkari and the 25-year-old did step onto the court for the following mixed doubles match at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena, but the player wasn’t at his dynamic best. Tsitsipas and Sakkarri, who defeated Daniela Seguel 6-0 6-1 in the women’s singles, lost the mixed doubles match to Seguel and Tomas Barrios Vera 6-7 (7-5) 6-3 10-6.

Tsitsipas provided a recent update on his injury and said: “I’m much better than I was a month ago.  I wasn’t 100% sure that I would have the chance to play in the United Cup and it didn’t cross my mind when I was considering my comeback. I went through tough times. Today, I was feeling great but there was just one moment during the match that I felt something. I don’t think I should be concerned about it too much; it’s not a major issue that I’m facing.”
