Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has high hopes for the Australian Open, has unexpectedly pulled out of a singles match in Tuesday’s United Cup. The world No.6 male player had been planned to play against Nicolas Jarry in Greece’s match with Chile in Sydney. However, he chose to let his teenage teammate, Stefanos Sakellaridis, take his place.
During an interview on the Nine broadcast, Tsitsipas disclosed that he would have to withdraw because of a persistent back ailment.
Stefanos commented:
“There are a few chances I might not play, and there are a few chances I might, so I’m kind of 50-50 so far. We will wait and see.”
Stefanos will play mixed doubles with Maria Sakkari.

Currently ranked no.6, Stefanos played his last match on the 14th of November 2023 when he had to retire when playing against world no.8 Holger Rune in the round robin and the scoreline was 2-1 .
At present, during this year the Greek owns a compiled 51-24 record.
Tsitsipas will play next at the Australian Open (Australian Open). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 14th of January.
