Four-time major champion Naomi Osaka officially began her comeback on New Year’s Day at the Brisbane International.

On Monday, Osaka played her first match since September 2022 and defeated 84th-ranked Tamara Korpatsch, 6-3, 7-6 (9), to record her first WTA victory as a mother after she gave birth to daughter Shai last July during her tennis hiatus.

Naomi revealed that she had to fight some nerves before closing up the match: “I was super nervous playing the entire time. But I was really excited to be out here and it feels really good to be back.”
