Shelton started his career as a professional tennis player while playing for the Florida Gators in college and made it to the quarterfinals of his first Grand Slam tournament in 2023 at the Australian Open. He reached the semifinals at the US Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open in the same season, finishing first and second, respectively.
