Andy Murray has acknowledged that his body feels old but has pledged to keep competing against the top players in the world as he gets ready for the Australian Open.

The 36-year-old feels that despite having a metal hip, he can still compete on par with Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic. He has travelled to Australia ahead of 2024’s first Grand Slam.

Murray, who is presently ranked 42nd in the world, will practice for Melbourne next week by participating at the Brisbane International.

Murray expressed his thoughts in a recent interview and said: “The body’s old but I still love it, and I still love the training and travelling. It’s a little bit tougher now that you’ve got a young family, which is tough. But I feel good enough to compete with the best players in the world, and I’ll keep playing until I feel like I can’t do that anymore.”

Murray has not suffered many injuries since undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2018, which he did to extend his professional career.

He added: “It’s probably the most positive part of the year for me that I was able to compete most weeks. I had a little injury around the US Open time but apart from that, it was really good. So long as I’m healthy, it makes it a lot more enjoyable to be out on the court. When you’ve got lots of injuries and stuff, the rehab is a lot harder now than when I was younger. So hopefully I can stay fit.”
