Maria Sakkari and Petros Tsitsipas will lead Team Greece this year in the United Cup. Together with Valentini Grammatikopoulou, Despina Papamichail, Stefanos Sakellaridis, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the team also includes these players.

Friday afternoon’s press conference was attended by the Tsitsipas brothers, Sakellaridis, Papamichail, and Grammatikopoulou. The team’s first game against Chile is scheduled for Tuesday, January 2. Because Sakkari’s international travel was delayed, she was not present at the time.

The Greek players expressed their excitement for the event during the press conference. Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his thoughts during the press conference and said: “The United Cup is one of the most exciting competitions that tennis has at the moment and to be representing the Greek colours is something that you don’t see that often in tennis. We’re here to do better, bigger, and bolder things this year. We were very close last year in the semi-finals, and we need to get back together, unite again, and make it work the way we did last year.”

Tsitsipas went on to say that he is eager to perform for the passionate Greek audience. He added: “Same Greeks, different city. All the Greeks that are here support us at any given moment, I feel, and we have a great relationship with them. We’ve witnessed it in Melbourne, even in Brisbane, and now we’re in Sydney. I feel like regardless of the player, regardless of who is on the court playing, the support is the same. The support is intense on every occasion and that, for us, means a lot. It gives us a psychological advantage.”
