Famous tennis analyst Alex Corretja believes that Jannik Sinner has improved his gameplay and is prepared to win his first Grand Slam.
The 22-year-old Sinner had an incredible 2023 campaign, winning his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 championship at the Canadian Open and finishing second in both the ATP 1000 Miami Open and the season-ending ATP Finals.
Additionally, he made impacts at Grand Slams and against well-known players, as shown by his run to the Wimbledon semifinals and victories over the top three players in the world, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev.
Sinner led Italy to their first Davis Cup victory since 1976 and concluded the year ranked No. 4 in the ATP Rankings, which was a career-high.
The Italian player won the ATP’s Most Improved Player of the Year title as a result of his achievements. Many think it will only be a matter of time for the young player to hold a significant prize after his achievement.
Corretja noted how Sinner has improved in recent months by adding some crucial elements to his game, such as slicing and drop shots. Corretja is among many who believe Sinner is just a few inches away from winning a Slam.
Corretja expressed his thoughts about Sinner in a recent interview and said: “I think Sinner is taking the right steps. He’s been improving his game very much. It was very important to add different things, like his serve is huge, his forehand, and his backhand, but also he’s slicing from time to time. He’s coming more often to the net. He’s doing some drop shots. This is a variation that he needed to be ready to win majors.”
He further said: “If you only play a huge level of tennis, you’re going to win maybe against 80% of the guys on tour, 85%. But there are some others that you won’t beat if you don’t have something different. You need something special to win majors. And I think Jannik’s been working on that and it’s paying off. He’s ready and I think he will be ready to win a major. In ’24, why not? If not, ’25, but I think he’s going to be 100% ready.”
Alex Corretja says Jannik Sinner will be ready to win a Grand Slam in 2024:
