According to former Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko, Jannik Sinner still needs something to overcome current world number one Novak Djokovic.
Alongside Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old is thought to be one of the most highly regarded young players on the circuit right now. Davydenko recently pointed out Sinner’s shortcomings in a report in which he was mentioned.
Davydenko expressed his remarks about Sinner in a recent report and said: “I saw live how he plays and trains; he is a great worker. He is also trying to change his game. He slides, moves well, and is physically strong and stable. He’s fantastic at this and I think that if his level continues like this, it will surely help improve his results in 2023.”
He further said: “But he still lacks something and it is difficult to endure an entire season relying only on willpower. He can produce a great tournament and a great match, but to last the whole season like Djokovic, he has to be able to do something else. Maybe something psychological.”
Sinner had an incredible year competing at the top level, particularly in the second part when he was vital in Italy’s victory against the United States in the Davis Cup, their first in almost forty years.
In the same time frame, the fourth-ranked player in the world defeated Djokovic twice in a single week. Sinner saved three match points in the Davis Cup semifinal, which resulted in one of those wins.
