Andrey Rublev showed a great deal of anxiety on the court when he recently played in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in London. A fear that has affected many of his previous performances, including those in recognized contests. Rublev lost his cool during the Danish player Holger Rune’s exhibition match. The chair umpire discovered the player a few inches away from his face.
Rublev claimed that the chair judge was at fault for failing to recognize that the Russian had requested to be allowed to play a wild point, which is worth three regular points under the specific rules of this exhibition competition.
Rublev continued his rant toward the supervisor after getting angry with the chair umpire. A few days later, Rublev acknowledged that his outburst toward Rune was inappropriate.
Before the point of becoming challenged, the umpire did not comprehend his plea. After giving the event a bit of thought, Rublev said he regretted his actions and said he was just swept up in the emotion.
Rublev explained this during a conversation: “The moment was very emotional and maybe I should have reacted differently, but I was just disappointed. When you run for every point, long rallies, and a very intense match, your heart rate is very high, and then this situation happens. You feel very disappointed, and all your work was for nothing.”
