Tim Henman, the former world No. 4 in tennis, has emphasized the significance of patience and realistic expectations for Emma Raducanu as she gears up for her comeback in the sport. Raducanu, the former US Open champion, faced a tumultuous 2023 season marred by injuries that limited her to only 10 matches across five tournaments, resulting in a 5-5 win-loss record.

Scheduled to mark her return at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland from January 1-7, Raducanu’s comeback follows a period of recovery and surgeries on both her wrists and ankle earlier in the year. The 21-year-old’s past experiences, including an ankle injury that led to her retirement during a match in Auckland last January, have fueled anticipation and cautious optimism ahead of her return to competitive tennis.

Speaking in an interview with Eurosport, Henman stressed the need for perspective regarding Raducanu’s return, acknowledging her prolonged absence and limited professional experience. He stated, “It’s massively exciting to have Raducanu coming back… she’s still massively inexperienced… so for me, if she could stay injury-free and play a series of tournaments without setbacks, that would be fantastic.”

Highlighting Raducanu’s exceptional talent and work ethic, Henman emphasized the importance of physical resilience as she aims to establish herself on the tour once again. He urged patience, reminding enthusiasts and fans of her youth and the need to build a strong foundation for her future in tennis.
