Ann Jones, a three-time Grand Slam winner, called Emma Raducanu’s downturn after winning the US Open, and she also expressed her displeasure with the young player’s high coach turnover.

In 2021, Raducanu had a dream run at Flushing Meadows, where she won ten matches without dropping a set to win the US Open trophy.

She signed multiple big sponsorship deals and went on to win the British Sports Personality of the Year award a few weeks later, so it was only natural that she became the talk of the town in the sporting community as well as in tennis.

As Raducanu has suffered from injuries and poor form since winning the Grand Slam, many have questioned that choice, and she is currently ranked No. 296 in the WTA Rankings.

Despite criticizing Raducanu—who has had five coaches since winning the US Open—for frequently switching coaches, Jones expressed concern over the 21-year-old’s judgment in an interview.

Jones expressed her thoughts and said: “Well, what did she think we all did? We had to find our answers. You have to work on things yourself. To fire a coach after she had just won the US Open was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Life is about momentum. If you’ve got the momentum, you have to take advantage of it and carry on. You’ve got a natural game. What you need to do is improve what you have. “

She added: “You don’t have coaches come along and change your game. The results are clear. You get injured because it’s not natural for you to hit the ball in that way. It was natural to hit it the way you hit it in the first place. How do you recover your natural game after it has been changed? It’s very difficult to find what you had before. I think she’s enjoyed winning, and I don’t think she wants to lose now. It’s a waste, and we could do with a champion here.”

Raducanu will finally make her competitive return at the Auckland Open in January after being sidelined since May of this year to undergo surgery on both her wrists and her ankle.
