Kyrgios To Miss The Australian Open 2024

For the second year in a row, Nick Kyrgios will not be playing in the Australian Open, but he will still be present at the season-opening Grand Slam the following year.

In January, Kyrgios was hoping for a smooth start to the 2024 season in his home Australia after a terrible 2023 campaign that saw him play just one match due to various injuries.

But after his name was missing from this week’s entry list, and after he confirmed on Saturday that he won’t be playing in his home major, questions began to surface regarding his participation in the Australian Open.

He was unable to participate in the hard-court Grand Slam at Melbourne Park this year due to a knee injury and also missed the French Open due to a foot injury.

He said on the social media platform: “Hey guys, Nick Kyrgios here, obviously had a tough year with injury, had that knee surgery, and came back a little too soon which set me back a little bit, obviously had some wrist issues.”

Kyrgios added: “This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open. Heartbreaking, I’ve had so many amazing memories there and I just want to get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right and I need a little more time. I was so close to winning a Grand Slam, I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back so please bear with me.”

He concluded his discussion: “Even though I won’t be there competing this year at the AO, I still will be around, commentating matches, being around, I’ve got some special things planned, so please be excited still. You know I’ll be there and hopefully see all the fans, I’ll see you there.”
