Emma Raducanu is scheduled to make her eagerly anticipated tennis comeback at the Auckland Open as she attempts to move past her injury issues.

To address the problems she had been facing, the 21-year-old, who last competed at the Stuttgart Open in April, had surgery on both hands and her ankle in May.

Now that she has been given a wild card for the WTA 250 tournament in New Zealand, which takes place from January 1–7, her recovery seems to be complete. Raducanu will probably then be aiming for a spot at the first major of the year, the 2024 Australian Open, depending on how her comeback goes.

That’s not just a formality because the British player, who entered the Melbourne showpiece with a protected ranking of 103, is still not eligible to advance and may have to wait for other players to withdraw or receive a wild card.

If Raducanu doesn’t get the latter, she’ll have to qualify through three rounds instead, just like she did when she won the US Open in 2021. The 21-year-old is part of an elite lineup in Auckland that also includes Caroline Wozniacki and Gauff.
