Kohlschreiber triumphs in Kitzbuhel

Local resident Philipp Kohlschreiber wins the tournament in Kitzbuhel.

The German had to work hard in the final against world no.109 Mathieu especially after a slow start when Philipp lost the opener 6-2.

Things got decisively better for the German in the second set when he immediately broke the Frenchman to win the set 6-2. In the decider Philipp took off after being 1- down to win 5 consecutive games and win the match 2-6 6-2 6-2 after 1 hour and 42 minutes. Stats.

Kohlschreiber: I am very happy for the result

Philipp commented “I got off to a bad start, but managed to come back into the match and play well during the big points.

I’m very happy with the result. I want to enjoy this win. I’m very happy that I won the tournament, it doesn’t happen too often in a career. I spend a lot of time here in Kitzbühel, I know the people and everybody is very friendly.

I feel very well physically and have been working a lot with my team.”

This is Kohlschreiber 6th career title.

 

 

Mathieu: I ran out of gas

The Frenchman admitted he was struggling especially in the decider when he lost 5 consecutive games “It is always difficult to lose, especially in the final.

I ran out of gas for sure, but I gave my best and I am happy with my week. This week gave me confidence for others tournaments. I know I can reach a final again.”

After this tournmanet Kohlschreiber gets 250 points and a nice €80,000 check.  Mathieu gets 150 points and €42.100.
