Holger Rune Opens Up About Coaching Dynamics With Coach Boris Becker

Holger Rune, the rising 20-year-old tennis sensation, recently shared insights into his evolving partnership with new coach Boris Becker during an appearance on Jimmy Connors’ podcast. Rune, recognized for his burgeoning talent on the ATP Tour, reflected on the impact of Becker’s mentorship, shedding light on the strategic and mental contributions that have shaped his game.

With notable achievements under his belt, including a victory at the ATP Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy and appearances in two other Masters finals, Rune encountered setbacks due to a back injury that disrupted a significant part of his 2023 season. This period saw him briefly coached by renowned mentor Patrick Mouratoglou before the recent transition to partnering with Boris Becker, an eight-time Major winner.

Expressing admiration for Becker’s influence, Rune highlighted the German’s role in refining his mental approach to the sport, emphasizing tactics for handling crucial moments and optimizing energy management during matches. “I think he is very exciting. I think he is bringing a lot of mentality and a few technical things. But more mentality like how you can handle the big moments better and how to save your energy in the matches, to do things mentally better,” Rune explained on the Advantage Connors podcast.

Additionally, Rune unveiled the collaborative effort underway between Becker, his fitness coach, and analyst, aimed at addressing nuances in his game. “He is a very good man, he already made a plan with my fitness coach and my analyst and what we needed to improve, and he’s extremely involved already. We had this test period during the tournaments,” Rune disclosed, underscoring Becker’s proactive involvement in strategizing for improvement.

As Rune continues to navigate his promising career, the insights into his evolving partnership with Becker offer a glimpse into the strategic recalibration and mental fortitude integral to his quest for continued success on the ATP Tour. The collaboration with a seasoned veteran like Becker signifies a pivotal chapter in Rune’s development, indicating a concerted effort to refine his game for the challenges that lie ahead.
