Jannik Sinner led Italy to their first Davis Cup title in 47 years, capping off his incredible performance against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
Jannik Sinner expresses his sympathy as Italian captain Tathiana Garbin was about to have a second surgery to remove the tumor after the day of the victory that will go down in Italian sports history.
Sinner expressed his thoughts about Tathiana after the win and said: “Tomorrow is an important day for Tathiana; we hope that this victory can give her strength. We will all be with her. Here, we talk about winning the Davis Cup. Yes, that’s nice. History is being made and we’re all happy. But what matters to her in life is something entirely different. We should feel very fortunate to be in this position that we are and will all be in with her.”
After losing to Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup final, 46-year-old Garbin revealed that she had a rare tumor for which she had already had surgery last month and would need another procedure in the coming days.
Sinner filled these final words with the extraordinary humanity of a champion—something that the rest of the world envies in this day and age.
