David Nalbandian, a former Argentine tennis player who finished third in the world and made it to the Wimbledon final, was accused of stalking and harassment by his former partner.
A scandal involving former tennis player David Nalbandian has made its way to the courts. His ex-partner, 29-year-old Araceli Torrado, accused him of setting up a spy camera in her room out of jealousy, harassment, and stalking. In this particular context, leaked conversations reveal that the athlete admitted to installing the device.
Torrado included a video of her brother removing the ventilation duct in her room and finding the hidden camera with the complaint. Along with the audio messages from WhatsApp, she also included a recording of her and Nalbandian’s phone call, during which he acknowledged the incident.
Nalbandian gave his statement and said: “Do you want me to be honest? We put it that day. I couldn’t see it because I don’t know what the problem is with the Internet; you can’t see anything. So I didn’t see absolutely anything.”
Torrado asked her ex-partner: “Why did you do this? Are you a pervert who wants to see me naked while I sleep, do you have a morbid curiosity to see me with someone or see if I brought guys? Tell me the truth.”
Nalbandian then replied: “The truth is, there are many times I don’t understand you. The only intention was to understand you a little more, to empathize a little more in some way.”
Torrado sought protective measures, including a restraining order and a prohibition on contact with the former tennis player, characterizing her as jealous and extremely manipulative.
