The dynamic Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini arrived in Malaga today, giving the Italian squad more encouragement as they compete for their second Davis Cup championship. Filippo Volandri, the team captain, has emphasized the importance of Berrettini’s presence, citing both his bonding with the group and the boost in morale he is anticipated to provide.
The arrival of Berrettini, who is well-known for his aggressive playing style and contagious team spirit, is sure to boost the team’s spirits. Even though the tennis player’s season ended due to an ankle injury sustained at the US Open, his commitment to the team has not changed.
At the Davis Cup on Wednesday, Berrettini discussed his mentality and the challenges he faced when he discovered that extensive rehabilitation would be necessary for his ankle to recover to full strength.
He discussed his thoughts about his injury and said: “There are many, many reasons why I was really sad. First of all, obviously, because I couldn’t compete, which is the thing that I love to do. Then there was another thing that came in. I wasn’t enjoying the process of coming back. Unfortunately, I had many injuries, but I always found, not the joy, but the challenge of coming back and feeling kind of like, Okay, now I put the work in.”

Now the world no.90, Berrettini played his last match on the 31st of August when he had to retire when playing against world no.95 Arthur Rinderknech in the 2nd round and the scoreline was 6-4 5-3 .
Currently, during this season Matteo has achieved a composed 14-12 win-loss record. Matteo Berrettini’s best performance of this year was reaching the final in Australia.
