Novak Djokovic's Father Criticizes Media, Reflects On Novak's Journey To Tennis Stardom

The loyal fan base of Novak Djokovic has persistently held the belief that the tennis icon faces unfair treatment from the media, often attributing this bias to an alleged agenda against Serbia.

While Djokovic himself has refrained from engaging in confrontations with the media, he has hinted at feeling overshadowed by the more favorable press coverage received by his rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

However, Djokovic’s father, Srdjan, has never held back in expressing his opinions, as evidenced in his recent interview that resonated strongly with his views. Srdjan launched fervent criticisms against the media, asserting that they have manipulated the narrative surrounding his son’s achievements.

He highlighted instances where comparisons were drawn between Novak’s record and other tennis greats, stating, “When Novak reached Federer’s 310-week record, they shifted the focus to Steffi Graf’s 370 weeks and then created someone from the pre-open era with 500 weeks at the top. Do they want those 500 weeks? Fine, they’ll get it.”

Srdjan Djokovic also reflected on Novak’s awe-inspiring journey to the summit of tennis. He reminisced about their humble beginnings, devoid of support from any association, city, or country.

He shared, “At the start, we were alone, lacking financial backing and a team like those from wealthy countries. I had to fulfill multiple roles as his coach, parent, fitness trainer, while juggling various responsibilities.”

Expressing his initial doubts about Novak’s potential, Srdjan acknowledged the disparity between their resources and those of other privileged players. Despite skepticism, he instilled in his son the unwavering belief in aiming solely for the top spot, rather than fixating on rankings.

“For a long time, neither my wife nor he believed what I did. I never allowed him to settle for anything less than number one,” Srdjan stated emphatically.

Srdjan Djokovic’s outspoken remarks shed light on the challenges faced by Novak and the unwavering dedication that propelled him to become one of tennis’s greatest. His words also emphasize the perceived biases within the media and their portrayal of Novak Djokovic’s monumental achievements.
