Many people were impressed by 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva’s tennis skills this year, including former player Martina Navratilova, who gave her praise for her efforts.
In front of a large tennis audience for the first time, Mirra Andreeva defeated 15-year-old Leylah Fernandez at the Madrid Open. A few days later, she turned 16 and won the WTA 1000 event, placing her in the Top 20.
Aryna Sabalenka eventually defeated her, but it was evident that we were watching a rising talent. She would keep up her good play throughout the year, winning recognition for a number of noteworthy Grand Slam outings.
Even though her form dropped off toward the end of the year, she managed to place in the Top 50. She’s going to have a big year next year, so getting a head start in Australia will be essential.
Because of her impressive performance this year, many anticipate great things from her. Like many others, Navratilova was astounded and, in a recent interview with the WTA, referred to her as a force.
Navratilova stated her remarks about Andreeva and said: “I’ve seen her play and I like what I see. She’s a force, and she wants it, wants it bad. Andreeva is fierce and fiery and all in.”
