Carlos Alcaraz Issues A Statement After Losing At The Atp Finals

Carlos Alcaraz has explained his current issues after his defeat in the ATP Finals in his first match. Alexander Zverev defeated world No. 2 on Monday, resulting in his third consecutive loss. Alcaraz gave a brutally honest evaluation of his recent downturn, blaming it on mental fatigue.

On Monday, Zverev defeated the ATP Finals newcomer 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4 after trailing 0-1. Alcaraz lost again. It was the first time he had lost three straight matches since March 2021, following an unexpected first-round loss in Paris-Bercy and an elimination from the round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters.

After his loss to Zverev, the Spaniard gave a direct assessment, telling reporters that he was still only 20 years old and wasn’t feeling well mentally or on the tennis court.

Alcaraz expressed his thoughts about his mental condition and said: “The truth is that I had been training quite well, with good feelings. Physically, I feel good, and I will continue to feel good after the game. But after a defeat like today, the truth is that I have not felt well at a tennis level. I have to improve.”

Alcaraz is aware that in the future he will need to remain mentally and physically fresh as the year draws to a close in order to secure a top-ranking position for another season.

He further added: “In the end, the year has been a very long, very demanding year. I have to improve to reach this point of the year in better condition, especially on a mental level. Probably tiredness and mental exhaustion from being in fairly high demand for so long. It is something that, if I ever want to win this tournament, if I want to finish the year as No. 1, I have to improve and reach this point in the year calm, well, and wanting to win everything that is thrown my way. But well, in the end, I think I put it down to mental fatigue.”
