Ahead of the 2023 ATP Finals, Jannik Sinner recently discussed how the death of his grandfather affected him. He couldn’t return home in time to bid his grandfather farewell and be with his family during a difficult time.
At the year-end tournament, Sinner is prepared to take on some of the most formidable opponents in the sport. However, he revealed a personal narrative that revealed a different aspect of his personality before he took the court.
In a recent interview, he talked about his emotional experience. Sinner discussed: “When my grandfather passed away in January, I was on a flight back from Australia. I landed in Milan at 6, and my grandfather had died at 4. I found my father at the airport. He was silent but I immediately saw that something was wrong. He told me on the street, and I held back. Not even my parents knew this; then, alone in the bedroom, a few tears fell. It’s normal.”
