A strong rock remix of Megan Thee Stallion’s most recent hit, “Cobra,” featuring Spiritbox, a Canadian metal band made up of guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante, was just published.
With its guitar solo, the original version of “Cobra” suggested that Megan was experimenting with a harder sound; this remix goes even farther. The chords have more bite, and LaPlante adds a chorus that uses the metaphor of the snake to allude to rebirth.
In 2020, Megan was shot by Tory Lanez and sentenced to prison. “Cobra” is Megan’s first release since then. The song appears to explore the psychological effects of the aftermath from the event and the ensuing legal battle.
Since Megan recently broke up with her previous label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, this album is especially noteworthy because it marks her first release as an independent artist. Her own Hot Girl Productions is handling the single’s distribution.
