Sam Stosur grabs her 8th career title (the 2nd of a good season) after winning a very tough final against Karin Knapp.
Karin had a quite busy day after defeating seed no.1 Sara Errani in a rain-postponed semifinal 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-5 in 2 hours and half in the morning.
Interesting enough Karin didn’t look that tired in the final (she played in the same afternoon) to grab a 6-3 4-2 lead. The Italian imploded after failing to serve out the match when she was 5-4 up to then lose the 2nd set tiebreak and the decider. Eventually Stosur won 3-6 7-6 (3) 6-2. Match Stats.
Stosur: I hung in there
Sam commented “It was a very hard match today. I was getting completely outplayed in that first set, and even though she was up in the second set too, I started to feel like I was doing a little better. Obviously she served for the match but I hung in there, got that set then played better and better from there.
It’s not ideal to be playing a semifinal and final in one day, a two-and-a-half-hour match in the morning then another two and a half hours in the afternoon, but unfortunately that’s just what happens with the weather sometimes. And she did serve for the match, so she wasn’t doing too badly either.”
With this win Stosur will bank 34K euro. Going for more?
