Former tennis player lauds Coco Gauff for her clever tennis schedule after US Open

Former tennis player Lindsay Davenport commended Coco Gauff for her wise planning decision after her US Open victory, noting that it improved her form during the fall.

Gauff Plays At WTA Finals

Lindsay Davenport, a former tennis player, praised Coco Gauff for her smart choice of schedule after winning the US Open and said it helped her form in the fall season.

The former World No. 1 highlighted differences between Gauff’s performance and form after the US Open in 2022 and the current campaign in a podcast. Davenport wasn’t highlighting that players should not participate in more tournaments; rather, she cautioned against exceeding it.

Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals of her home Slam the previous season and went on to play in two more WTA events, Guadalajara and San Diego, in back-to-back weeks before making her debut at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth.

In the season finale, she barely made an impression, dropping all of her group matches in the singles and doubles categories before being eliminated. Davenport attributes her body’s continued freshness after the US Open to Gauff and her team, saying that things are much better and more positive this year.

Davenport noted that getting sufficient rest is essential for a longer tennis career and that Gauff’s attitude at this time of year last year suggested that she was not in a good mood.

Davenport expressed her remarks and said: “I actually love what she has done since winning the US Open. Last fall was a really tough time if you were a Gauff fan watching her play. She played the Open, then San Diego, then Mexico, then Fort Worth, and it was tough. If you looked into her eyes, she did not look happy.”

She added: “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, I hope you don’t lose her. You know, I hope, like, overplaying and all the expectations and all these things on such an amazing talent. Listen, we have seen it a lot in women’s tennis, and I remember thinking, Gosh! I hope this doesn’t happen.”

Davenport concluded her discussion: “Amazing job by her team and her family this year in getting rid of that. You’re exhausted at the end of the year, and you have this life-changing moment. She’s played one tournament, and she’s ready to go here now. If you want to see Coco Gauff play in her mid-30s, you have to keep her fresh. You have to keep her happy. Let her celebrate her biggest goals since she picked up her racket. She’s going to achieve many more amazing things.”
