Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Rolex Paris Masters citing fatigue, as he concluded his first-round match at 2:37 a.m. local time on Thursday morning. The No. 4 seed was scheduled to play Alex de Minaur in the final match of the day session on Thursday, but he had to pull out due to a short recovery period. Several of Sinner’s opponents have already criticized the ATP for the Paris schedule.
Sinner informed the media recently and said: “I am sorry to announce that I am withdrawing from today’s match in Bercy. I finished the match when it was almost 3 in the morning and didn’t go to bed until a few hours later. I had less than 12 hours to rest and prepare for the next game.”
He further added: “I have to make the right decision for my health and my body. The weeks ahead with the ATP Finals at home and the Davis Cup will be very important, so now I focus on preparing for these important events. See you in Turin.”
The Italian was scheduled to play in the second evening session on Wednesday. The Paris Masters timetable states that the night session starts at 7:30 p.m. local time. However, the four-match day session didn’t end until 9:56 p.m. on Wednesday, which meant that Holger Rune and Dominic Thiem didn’t start the night session until another half an hour later.
