On Friday, Holger Rune of Denmark defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (6) to advance to the Swiss Indoor Basel semifinals.
In the tiebreaker in the third set, Rune let Etcheverry back into the match by failing to convert two match points. However, Rune scored a lucky but fluky point on the thirteenth after hitting a dead net cord. At the next point, Etcheverry double-failed, allowing Rune to move forward.
In the Basel semifinal match on Saturday, Holger Rune will face Felix Auger-Aliassime; however, during his quarterfinal victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the umpire mistakenly believed that Rune was Casper Ruud.
During the changeover, there was a humorous video where the umpire addressed Holger Rune, who was protesting against Damien Dumusois, about long points that he was leaning over.
The umpire mistakenly said: “Most of the time you’re good, Casper.”
Although he was unsure of who it was, he hesitated a little. With a simple ‘I’m not Casper’ response, Rune turned away and grinned, failing to find any humor in the error.

Ranked world no.6, the Dane has a 41-20 record in 2023. Rune is now having a run in Basel where he overcame the world no.55 Miomir Kecmanovic 1-6 7-5 6-3, the world no.29 Sebastian Baez 7-62 6-1 and the world no.32 Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-1 3-6 7-66.
Holger Rune will compete against the world no.19 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinal on Saturday at 4:30 pm on CENTER COURT. Their current record is 2-1 for Rune.
Rune conquered 1 title in 2023 in Munich. The Dane was the runner-up in Monte-Carlo (Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters) and in Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia).
